Call for action
Wikimedia is a global volunteer movement. From left to right, Wikimedians in Sweden, Israel, Iceland, Chile, and New York.
We are now in the final month of our ambitious effort to develop a five year strategic plan for the Wikimedia movement through an open community process. Over the past 11 months, over a thousand people have directly contributed to this process, which started with brainstorming, and moved to research, deep deliberation and analysis and resulted in a set of priorities for the movement as well as a huge number of ideas for how to achieve these goals.
As we bring this process to a close, our biggest challenge is to put these ideas into action. Here on Wikimedia's strategic planning wiki, you'll find a list of action opportunities organized around the priorities they support. We'd like to invite you to volunteer for and take ownership of these action opportunities. Here are just a few examples:
- developing a framework for expert review of Wikimedia content
- building a central repository of inter-language links and data
- awarding an annual prize for the best featured content
- launching a "be bold" campaign to invite people to contribute to Wikipedia
Wikimedia works because hundreds of thousands of people from around the world make it work. If we're to achieve our priorities over the next five years, we'll need everyone to pitch in.
To start working on these opportunities, go to the main page, and if you have questions or thoughts, discuss these at the Village Pump. You can propose new ideas, discuss and edit existing ideas, and sign up to take action. Please visit the main page and join all of us to help us achieve our vision: Imagine a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge. That's our commitment.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
