No discussion of strategy is complete without a discussion of financial resources. As the Wikimedia Foundation has grown and added fundraising staff, it's time to brainstorm about financial goals and visions. What are your thoughts? Where do you want WMF to be financially in 5 or 10 years? Do you have the perfect idea for a financial plan? What does it include?

  3. I'd like to see the Foundation look at long term investment vehicles (a Foundation endowment) to free us from some of the uncertainty of economic turmoil. We got lucky this time - might not happen next time, and it would be nice to have large reserves to fall back on if we had to maintain and even grow the infrastructure in the face of a massive cut in donations. -- Philippe 22:02, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

In five years, I think that Wikimedia should be on its way to being funded at a level that is commensurate with its impact on the world -- orders of magnitude beyond what it has thus far achieved -- and finding new and creative ways to use that capital in furtherance of the various aspects of its mission.
