Notes on Day 2 – Open Discussion on Strategy Planning (Aug 27, 2009)
- Approx. 40-50 attendees, a lot of Chapter people from previous day's lunch meeting
- Recognize UK, Australia, India, Hong Kong, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, France, Netherlands, Germany, Catalan, USA, ar wiki, 2 Board members
- Announcement that Fact Base and Jimmy’s speech posted on strategy wiki
- First thing – round of applause for the data presented by Jimmy this morning
- Note: Florence (former Board chair) and several Chapter leads said they would be using these slides over and over again as they do their presentation in their home countries throughout the year
- Eugene does an overview of the project
- Question on posting in native language – how quickly?
- Agree on internal dates so that local language teams can work and then summarize in their language for translation
- Budget for translation

- Question on where/how the Call for Proposals fit with existing Projects and what is developing through them?

- Catalizing power of seeing where we are is very powerful – self-awareness

- Jimmy is a little bit too optimistic about what is going in mainline China – two very strong strategic competitors who are for profit Baidu, Oudong – put huge money there

- Chapters can play a role by going outside of the Wikipedian community to get an understanding what is happening at the local level

- Some of the proposals are so finite that they belong

- Need a process to identify the non-strategic and move them to another area – need to move out the tactical proposals

- Process outreach: going out into your own community and engaging then posting
- Brazil to have conferences in October – offline event that will include non-contributors
- Send blogs and critiques to wiki strategy site – in any language

- Purpose of task force reviewed
- Need for local context task forces are most relevant and needed
- Strategy Task force will be tasked to synthesize up to a recommendation of where we will be in five years
