Summary
The inclusion of advertising on Wikipedia pages.
Proposal
By the inclusion of (not annoying) ads in Wikipedia such as Google ads, Wikipedia could become less dependent on donations. The implementation of a propietary ad system could also be an option.
Motivation
Wikipedia receives each year fewer donations than it needs to operate.[citation needed] This makes the project unstable and makes the future rather uncertain. The user would rather accept Google ads or something similar rather than the loss of Wikipedia.
Key Questions
Will the users accept advertising? Should the Wiki Foundation be dependent of advertising revenues? Will Wikipedia or Wiki Foundation lose credibility considering the inevitable relationship between advertisers and the Wikipedia content?
Potential Costs
