The primary question being asked behind everything the Wikimedia Foundation does should be "how will this improve our content?" This question should be interpreted broadly, but it should always be at the forefront of everything Wikimedia does.
It begins with a simple idea: when the general public visits Wikipedia or another Wikimedia project, they do so because they're interested in the content.
A lot of resources (time, energy, money) are being used on things that don't primarily improve the content of the projects, and this needs to change. People don't visit Wikimedia because they want to vacation in Buenos Aires (Wikimania). They don't visit Wikimedia because they want a to buy a book of the content (PediaPress). They visit Wikimedia because they want accurate information about a particular topic.
It's somewhat understandable that the Wikimedia Foundation is looking out for its own interests and trying to keep itself sustainable. However, it exists solely to serve the projects. It should remember that its number one priority is the content of its projects.
