Proposal talk:Change the name of the Wikipedia website to OmniScience

Sounds Wicked and Pedestrian.

I like Wikipedia as Wikipedia. Heck, I even got a keychain that says "I Love Wikipedia." So changing your name should never be on the agenda. GVnayR 03:53, 12 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
In my experience rebrandings are rarely worthwhile. In this case, Wikipedia is the number 1 worldwide brand for digital encyclopaedias. OmniScience even in English at best sounds like the science supplement of a magazine I used to subscribe to - in other languages it may not even mean that, crucially it doesn't even include pedia! I think such a rebranding would be a pointless, damaging and expensive exercise. As a not for profit we are obliged to be cost-effective, going through an ostentatiously wasteful rebranding exercise could deter donations for years afterwards from people who don't want to give money to a wasteful charity.
