Proposal talk:Embedding video files from different archives
Media should be hosted
Perhaps you could have a whitelist of sites that are allowed to have their content displayed. I do not think that the internet archive will be appropriate, due to too little free content. I think that wikimedia should be hosting the content as that is a setp in making it available, less dependent on the other source site. You can already link to the other site and retrieve from there if the site is up. Graeme Bartlett 05:01, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
AFAIK, this is already possible, read mw:Manual:$wgForeignFileRepos, mw:Manual:Configuration_settings#Shared_uploads. The problem is opportunity. Nemo 22:21, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
- Also, Michael Dale has been doing a lot of work in this area. Upload workflow, Metavidwiki, etc. ^demon 18:57, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
Impact?
Some proposals will have massive impact on end-users, including non-editors. Some will have minimal impact. What will be the impact of this proposal on our end-users? -- Philippe 00:09, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
- There will be some impact on non-editors, because the probability that files will disappear will increase. Searching files will be getting more difficult for editors, because there will be more than one "commons" to look into. --Goldzahn 08:43, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
