very important

This is an incredibly important thing to spell out. I think we're just beginning to see the impact of community organized events, and I'd personally like to see more of them (al a wikiconference NY) with a finite geographic appeal, as opposed to the major international event (wikimania or whatever). -- Philippe 02:49, 2 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

What does this need?

I'm just off to the London monthly meetup - Wikipedia's original and most frequent meetup. I've been to most of the last ten of them. Numbers vary dramatically according to whether we do a promotion that month, but almost all the attendees are Wikipedians as opposed to editors on other projects. Provided you have enough editors in the catchment area, you use a geonotice to promote the event and you find a good convenient venue that's all you need. Just pick a pub or equivalent that's quiet enough to talk and happy to have a large crowd of people taking over part of their venue, WiFi is also useful. It's true, meetups can be easy to organize. This is focused a bit more on larger-scale conferences which require more support. -- Phoebe 04:24, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Support

I like this proposal. Um... not really sure what to add other than that. Although I think I would personally give a higher priority to working with video as, through YouTube, that would have a larger audience. But, of course, videos could be generated by the proposed events, which would be good. --Bodnotbod 14:10, 17 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Impact?

Some proposals will have massive impact on end-users, including non-editors. Some will have minimal impact. What will be the impact of this proposal on our end-users? -- Philippe 00:09, 3 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
