Proposal talk:Identify donors with an icon

If anyone knows of a pre-existing image that would serve as an example of donor-"W" icon, please add it to the proposal-page next to your own user-name as an example. Ie, "WPhilippe" -- 203.171.196.7 19:42, 2 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

userbox

On the English Wikipedia we have a userbox that donors can display. I don't see any benefit in doing more than that. WereSpielChequers 18:15, 18 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Impact?

Some proposals will have massive impact on end-users, including non-editors. Some will have minimal impact. What will be the impact of this proposal on our end-users? -- Philippe 00:10, 3 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

As well as the amount of impact we also need to consider whether that impact will be positive or negative. I foresee several negative impacts of this not least that because over 18s are more likely to have credit cards, not having donated could become an unspoken reason for opposes at RFA by those who don't want teenage admins (remember the stated reason for an oppose may not be the real reason). Also there could be resentment from volunteers who already put a lot of money into this by buying books and journals and see those who put in less money but give directly in cash getting rewarded. I can tell you that I would feel plenty of resentment if I felt unable to donate. It is a status symbol that clogs up the pages. And it would clog up the minds of people who should be debating facts, not loyalty. -Lyc. cooperi 09:39, 30 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Donations through semipostal stamps for email

I would prefer http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Semipostal_stamp_for_email in combination with the Proposal:Wikimail, an e-mail system. Receiving a stamp from somebody else where you can choose the recipient organization for the donation (including Wikimedia) should have a similar effect (including Warm fuzzy feelings) but without the donor/non-donor segregation effect some people apparently fear. --Fasten (Wikinews: Aktion Deutschland Hilft asks for donations after the earthquake in Indonesia) 10:54, 13 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
