Much would already be gained, if there is some information transfer into the local projects. I guess, that is up to us. --Goldzahn 11:46, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- I like that people involved with Wikipedia do meet up in the flesh. But I think those that would attend a strategy meeting will inevitably be an extremely small subset of the community. I feel strategy should remain discussed online. --Bodnotbod 16:01, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- I tend to disagree here. I think online discussion can be very useful, but it has its disadvantages. One of those is that there is such a huge amount of text created, that non-native speakers are unable to process the information, and will drop out quite quickly in adding to the discussion. I think that online discussion has clear limitations, and that real life discussion is necessary to involve another group of people, but also to bring vague ideas to concrete proposals. Besides that, I do agree with you that it should not /replace/ online discussion. I think both can very well co-exist, and even that the combination of the two is more then the sum of the parts. - Meetups --Goldzahn 04:37, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
- Those are existing meetups. I mean to organize them specifically :) Lodewijk 00:30, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

presence
why would wmf staff presence be needed? This is a fine idea, local groups should indeed start doing this yesterday (hey wait, we just did in Cambridge :). All we need is a page here to post notes and talk about what came up. Sj 00:36, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
- The key questions only ask "# Is WMF staff presence required?" :) This will differ from region to region :) I think in some cases it would even be a downside to have staff around, since it would force the language to be English. Lodewijk 01:09, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
Impact?
Some proposals will have massive impact on end-users, including non-editors. Some will have minimal impact. What will be the impact of this proposal on our end-users? -- Philippe 00:17, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
- I think that the impact would be mainly indirect :) Your question is similar to that of "what would be the impact of a good strategy", something you cannot determine beforehand, because it only helps you thinking about what would be the way to go. Finding the (right) way will have a huge impact though Lodewijk 16:22, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
