Proposal talk:Support for high resolution images
On the Appearance tab of Special:Preferences you can set the maximum size for image previews on the image description page. Setting that preference effectively implements the option to download images at different resolutions. Dedalus 08:52, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

- Gigapan works definitely with tiling. (You can prove this e.g. with the Firebug-Addon.) Because it work very soft in Flashplayer you don't see this tiles. Javascript is not so smooth in the moment, but it comes better and better. Also smart-zoom should be possible on openlayers. --Kolossos 12:24, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Flickr
I think Flickr does this very well: easily accessible links to a variety of standard image sizes. We could add to that a box for inputting a dimension manually (which basically makes the manual URL editing method more accessible).--ragesoss 14:00, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
Impact?
Some proposals will have massive impact on end-users, including non-editors. Some will have minimal impact. What will be the impact of this proposal on our end-users? -- Philippe 00:17, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
- The users gets high resolution images like this without to wait too long. So the user can see a building, a city or an old map/painting like in real without necessary to travel the world. It's for me a phantastic way to learn about the world and I hope that other people like it too and spend more money to the foundation.
- In some regions the internet is so slow that a download of 5 MB or more is not possible, so the image is not accessable for this people. We have at Commons:Commons:Featured pictures lots of discussions that highres-images should resize to a lower resolution before upload, so we lose in the moment important informations forever. --83.189.37.150 07:42, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
