Noted the proposal for merging with TTS-Artikel, written in German. It's proposing exactly the same thing. It is however much less elaborate. How exactly merging the two articles would work? --Brokshen 01:00, 25 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Impact?

Some proposals will have massive impact on end-users, including non-editors. Some will have minimal impact. What will be the impact of this proposal on our end-users? -- Philippe 00:17, 3 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • The impact as a whole would probably be minimal, that's why I tentatively classified it as as low-priority and long-term. The demography would be students and vision impaired users. They could both benefit from the audiobook format. Of course, even the causal user might appreciate the possibility to listen to an article with a mp3 player ie. while driving, and such. --Brokshen 20:12, 4 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • The impact on end-users would be high if we look into countries, that do have mobile phones but no computers. There we could provide something like a audio skin. (see audio file of the wikimania speech at the references section) --Goldzahn 20:21, 4 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • It may also impact Wiktionary. Indeed it would be very useful to have the phonetics pronunciation associated to every single word.

But I admit that it needs to be more well-advertised, and it'd be nice to integrate it with Wikipedia articles. Still, there's no need to re-invent the wheel. Graham87 03:51, 10 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Dispenser: Would an audio version of a Wikipedia article (text-to-speech) violate the page text redistribution rule? If not, why?
DaBPunkt: yes it would.

DaB would like to point out that it would allowed to create a bot that uploads audio files to commons. 74.102.130.84 21:26, 7 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Google Voice Search

This text say, that in Aug 12, 2010 1 out of 4 queries on Android 2.0 devices in the US are being made using voice search. It seams that an audio version of the article would be a good thing. I guess that we would have to invent something to move quick from one Chapter to another by voice command. --Goldzahn 23:27, 12 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
