Proposal talk:Assignment for version number to each article
I don't get what is this proposal asking.
Accessing the articles by a numbers instead of a name?
Using version numbers to detect the number of a change? What would you do with article merging/revision deletion?
I don't see the use case of this proposal.

- I guess that what the proposal is asking for is an extra piece of software that would represent the page history, while automatically numbering versions (00001, 00002, 00003, 00004, 00005, 00006, 00007, 00008, ...). For instance, shifting to a table would do it. This would not add much, as this can already be done by eye while browsing through the page history. However, for pages with very extensive histories this would help ("show me version 2300" in a page history of 10.000 versions). - Brya 06:00, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- The more I think about, the more I like it. Such pages with very extensive page histories do exist. - Brya 05:38, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Date?
Is this proposal different from simply referencing the date and time of an edit? What is the benefit of referring to a chronological edit number (i.e. 9483) versus a date/time stamp (i.e. 2005-05-05 21:35:02.03)? Eb.eric 16:19, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- As much as I can see, a straight integer version number could be usable to compute the change intensity on the article. Combined with a time span, such as 30 changes per week between 20 Octember 2109 and 32 Octember 2109, it reflects "hotness" of the editor works. But I have a hard time believing this don't already exist, but it might be made easier available to the common editor. Rursus 06:29, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- Something like this? Or this? Or maybe even w:en:WP:RSS? I can't understand. Nemo 21:38, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
- It depends. A "straight integer version number" would be useful, provided it becomes possible to access that version by typing in the integer. - Brya 18:26, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
Impact?
Some proposals will have massive impact on end-users, including non-editors. Some will have minimal impact. What will be the impact of this proposal on our end-users? -- Philippe 00:05, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
