Speedies

Just as a note, we're generally not going to do speedy deletion on this wiki - proposals take time to formulate, and we want to encourage thoughtful participation. :-) -- Philippe 02:19, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry, I obviously wasn't thinking. Of course proposals like this one or this one need more time to be completed. Wutsje 02:29, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
You don't think there's hope for those? <grin> Actually, I was thinking about this one. -- Philippe 02:30, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry again, I still don't see anything useful there. But we'll see what comes out of it. Wutsje 02:36, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
You're possibly correct. And on any other wiki, I'd do exactly the same thing. In this case, though, Eugene and I believe that the good ones will rise to the top through things like reader feedback extension and community discussion. I agree that the content of that page is a little shaky, but based on the title I think there may be some consideration happening. I'd like to err on the side of caution, rather than potentially squelch a good idea.
Regardless, Eloquence tells me that you've volunteered to help with the mop. Obviously, you're qualified, so if you're okay with it, I'll go ahead and add the sysop. :) -- Philippe 02:39, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Okay, thank you. I will stay away from the new age stuff and devote my attention to the boobs. Wutsje 02:53, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Do you have any idea how many men over the course of civilization have said exactly that? +sysop in a couple minutes :-) -- Philippe 02:54, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Spammers

They make me mad. Thank you for dealing with them - don't feel the need to warn, though. If it's blatant spamming, block 'em. -- Philippe 01:11, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I will. Wutsje 01:16, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
You're too nice :-P Thanks for the work. :) -- Philippe 01:28, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks

Thank you for the welcome note but I just wanted to drop off 2 suggestions which I have thought for some time now would improve the user experiance on Wikipedia.84.41.42.163 21:04, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

That's exactly what this wiki is for, so thank you for that. :-)   Regards, Wutsje 21:05, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Redirects to be deleted

Wutsje, can you remove the following 61 redirects? I added direct links to prevent deleting of the actual informational pages or templates. All of these pages were created by ranaming the page. I checked the usuage and corrected a few links to these redirects.

Alternativily I could be given sysop rights as a) I expect a lot more renaming of pages will be done and b) I have sysop rights on an other wikimedia project: nl.wikinews, actually I am burocrat over there

If this should be posted elsewere: let me know.

Thanks, and I applied for admin. HenkvD 18:28, 22 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Spam Blacklist logging

I believe that you just click the other linkie. Rather than the Log link, like the logging link right below it. Also, what was the exact URL of the page your were trying to block with "wepblog-.tr.gg". That gives a 404 not found. Gopher65talk 15:34, 25 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

It does now, but it didn't when I tried it. Wutsje 00:51, 26 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Welcoming Users

Hi, just wanted to drop a note to let you know that User:Mwpnl configured a welcome bot for us - there shouldn't be any need to welcome users manually any more. But watch for a malfunctioning bot, just in case, and block it if it's being bad. It's User:StrategyBot. -- Philippe 19:02, 2 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ah, perfect. I hadn't noticed its existence yet, but the thought that welcoming new users might just as well be done by a bot had crossed my mind too. Thank you for notifying me. Regards, Wutsje 11:01, 3 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Rename page

Hi Wutsje

I am uploading the proposals raised from a brainstorming organized by the Proposed Catalan Chapter. I am writing them in Catalan and then translating to English. I mistakenly saved the Proposal:Solicited advertisement in Catalan. The title of the page should be Proposal:Solicited advertisement/ca but I cant see the rename button. Please could you tell me how to rename the page? Thanks. --~

Fixed. Regards, Wutsje 11:01, 3 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Block time

Hey Wutsje - thanks for all your hard work. I really do appreciate it when I get up in the morning and you've kept things clean during (my) night. I just wanted to point out that your block of User:90.192.226.15 may have been a little long (at a year). I haven't checked to see if it's a static address, but I can't imagine a circumstance barring a really serious incident that I would block for a year for. It's no big deal - we all come from different projects, with different standards, and I'm sure you're exactly in line with your usual guidelines. Let's lean towards shorter blocks here though. I've been giving them 24 hours and then a week if I see them again. I haven't had any third time blocks yet, but i'd probably move to a month then. Thanks, really, for all that you do. -- Philippe 05:17, 23 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

You're right, I applied a sort of standard obscenities block time from one of my "local" projects - but it in this case that may have been a little bit harsh. Another time I will stick to the one day/week/month rule. Regards, Wutsje 10:13, 23 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you

Wutsje, I always feel so calm when I see your name on the recent changes list, because I don't worry about the wiki. Thanks for always watching out for us! -- Philippe 16:17, 25 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, Philippe - and you're welcome. :-)   Wutsje 16:30, 25 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

LOL

You have just got to think I'm insane. It's nothing you've done incorrectly, and a one day block would be perfectly acceptable. I just felt that given the fact that it was his first edit, plus the username, plus the terroristic threat, I saw zero chance that they would be productive - so why waste the space on him? :) -- Philippe 17:47, 25 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

You're right, of course. An indefinite block was my first reaction - but I thought: "Let's lean towards shorter blocks here". :-) Wutsje 17:50, 25 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm afraid that's my fault... I've probably got you a little gun shy. Your first instinct was probably my favorite choice, but either is perfectly acceptable. I'll try to be a little more consistent, too. :) -- Philippe 17:53, 25 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

LOL again

"totally useless". LOL! -- Philippe 03:53, 28 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to templates

"Templates", as they are commonly known, are not actually templates, but merely form letters pasted to the user talk page of every user who performs a certain action, whether that be creating a new article, creating an account, or merely editing certain articles. These offend many people, as they feel impersonal and often strongly suggest certain courses of action. This can be jarring to someone who has lurked for a considerable period of time, or who has just never hit the certain set of criteria used to apply the template. (Yes, I hate being templated; sorry for going off on you) Riffraffselbow 02:04, 3 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

I've calmed down further now, especially with the kind words of Philippe on the subject; I don't believe in deleting comments, so I'll just have to say that I'm sorry I went off on you. Of course you only intended to welcome anyone and everyone new to strategy.wikimedia, not insult me or anyone else. Sorry! Riffraffselbow 02:44, 3 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

It's okay. "Being templated" is not always a source of joy indeed. Ever uploaded an image to Commons and accidently forgot the license? :p  On this wiki though, as Philippe already explained, the welcoming tries to convey the message that we really appreciate your interest in the strategy planning process. And you got that message. Okay, not as the crow flies, but it worked. :-)  Regards, Wutsje 03:21, 3 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Next Steps

  Next steps!
It's time to answer some questions! Would you check out the list of questions that were submitted by the community and others and try to answer some? -- Philippe 02:22, 22 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello Wustje! You seem to be everywhere :) Nice to meet ypu here too :)--Gaeser 15:42, 5 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Next steps (again)

Hi Wutsje,

Thanks for all of your contributions to the strategy wiki to date! The strategic planning process wouldn't be where it is today without all of your help. Your early and frequent support was invaluable, and I want you to know how much of a difference that you made. I hope you'll continue to work towards finishing the plan...

We're about to move into the third and final phase of the process, and in many ways, this will be the most challenging. I'm hoping you will continue to be an active presence in shaping the movement's five year strategic plan.

Here are some concrete suggestions as to how you can help moving forward:

  • Add your name to Strategic Planning:Hosts. This just formalizes what I think has been true all along; that you care about this process, and that you're doing what you can to help it along moving forward.
  • Help organize and improve this wiki! Starting next week (January 18, 2010), we're going to be encouraging many more people to come participate, and we want to make sure this wiki is as presentable as possible. A comprehensive list of things to do is at Strategic Planning:To-do list.
  • Invite people to participate! Encourage volunteers to discuss Task force/Recommendations.
  • Finally, we need to clearly describe what this final phase is going to look like. In particular, we could use feedback and discussion on Strategic Planning:Decision-Making.

Let me know what you think! Many, many thanks! ~Philippe 00:56, 12 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Dang!

You're FAST tonight. Good job. I'm blocking Tosh.O vandalism on sight, FYI. ~Philippe (WMF) 05:51, 31 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. And yes, so I noticed. Will do so next time too (I wasn't aware yet there is such a thing as Tosh.0 vandalism). Wutsje 17:20, 31 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Tosh.O is a show on Comedy Central - the host invited his audience to vandalize his article, resulting in a fairly massive rash of attacks on the english wikipedia. We've taken a pretty hard line about it. You probably wouldn't have had any way to know about it... we should really think about ways to improve cross-wiki communication of things like this. Good point.
Thanks for your hard work the past few days! ~Philippe (WMF) 17:22, 31 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
